"The origins of clan Brodie are shrouded in mystery as many of their early records were destroyed when their castle was burned down by the Gordons in 1645. There is evidence of Pictish settlements around the early Brodie lands, which has led to speculation that they are descended from the Pictish royal family, carrying the name "Brude".
The clan have long been linked with the Moray area, and appear linked with local nobility - records show Brodies serving as judges and estate holders throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. There are records of several politicians and diplomats within the clan, including involvement in early discussions around a Scottish union with England. Alexander Brodie of Brodie became Lord Lyon King of Arms in 1727."
